Subject: oaanews: Budget & Legislative Information Session for OAs
Information Session on the Budget and the Legislature
The most critical current issue for UO officers of administration is the UO budget for the next two years. As you have been hearing from many sources, the Governor's budget proposes a cut of about $93,000,000 (yes, million) from the Higher Education budget. Although the legislative leadership has proposed reducing the cut somewhat, our budget situation depends on the depth of legislative support for higher education. In the past, we've found that the legislature does respond to citizen input, so this is a good time to speak up.
The Officers of Administration Council is sponsoring an information session about the legislative session and the higher education budget. Tim Black of Governmental Affairs will update us on what budget options are being discussed, and how you can get involved to influence the outcome. Members of the OAA Council will also be present to hear other concerns and questions.
Also, don't forget that Tuesday, March 6 is the date of the rally in Salem in support of higher education. Busses leave the UO (Mac Court) at 8:3 a.m. The rally is at 10:30. The rally at the last legislative session had a large effect, and this one can as well.
